Indianapolis Parks to Explore During Quarantine

by Melissa Smith

As many of us have been inside much more than usual and the kiddos will be heading back to remote learning soon, do not forget to spend time outdoors! It is supposed to be a beautiful week this week in Indy! Let’s make the most of it by adventuring in some local parks around the area. Of course, please make sure to practice social distancing guidelines and do not use playgrounds while going out to explore in this gorgeous spring weather! I have compiled a list of some of my favorite local parks for you to explore and hike with your family below:

  • Broad Ripple Park– located off of Broad Ripple Avenue and Primrose, this park even has a dog park! Go on a nice walk through the park here and find all the spring wildflowers that are popping up! http://www.broadripplepark.org
  • Holliday Park– one of my personal favorites to explore that is right outside of Broad Ripple at 63rd and Springmill. At Holliday Park, there is history within the Ruins and many trails

Enjoying a walk with my dog at Holliday Park.

throughout- both wooded and not! If you have a dog that loves to swim, be careful because many trails lead to water 🙂 https://www.hollidaypark.org

  • Eagle Creek Park– this park is off of W. 56th street and is the largest park in Indianapolis! Here you can enjoy the outdoors and wildlife, about 10 miles of paths/trails, and there is a bark park! Go here to explore the woods, ponds, and meadows of Indiana! https://eaglecreekpark.org
  • Fort Harrison State Park/Fort Ben- located in Lawrence off of Post Road, this is a lovely Indiana State Park! You can hike, bike, and there is a dog park! My family enjoys hiking and biking around Delaware Lake!  https://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2982.htm

Happy Exploring!
